Himansu Basu worked as a Senior Consultant Obstetrician Gynaecologist in Kent , England for over 30 years. He had long association and held executive positions in a number of National Medical organisations including the Royal Society of Medicine(President, Obstetrics and Gynaecology section) , Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (Lecturer, Council Member and Examiner),Royal College of Surgeons ( Examiner) and the General Medical Council (Medical Assessor and Associate).
He did basic research on haemorrhages in pregnancy complications which led him to a PhD from the University of Liverpool. He received a number of awards for his research work from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, the British Medical Association, Rotary International in GBI and the Sternberg Foundation. He published over 50 papers and chapters in Books and was examiner for a number of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Medical Examinations for over 30 years.
In Rotary, he was District Governor in 2004-05. He served RIBI as International Committee Chairman. He served RI as Presidents Representative, Europe Coordinator for Water Sanitation Resource Group, Director of WASRAG and Founder Chairman of Rotarian Doctors Fellowship.
He is Medical Director of Rotarian Action Group on Population Development, GBI Chairman of RI Inter Country Committee and Rotary International Technical Coordinator on Maternal and Child Health.
Himansu is a Paul Harris Fellow, Rotary Foundation Benefactor, Bequest Society member and recipient of Service Above Self Award, Champions of Change award of Rotary International.
His commitment to women’s health issues had taken him to many countries and to 18 RI Conventions, He had spoken at many District Conferences and participated in a number of International Institutes including acting as a Speaker, Moderator and Co-Moderator.
Himansu is married to Lynda. They have a daughter (doctor) and a son (Veterinary Surgeon). When he is not busy with Rotary, Himansu enjoys music and international travel.
